WISE NEWS PRESS / ISTANBUL, TURKEY — NOVEMBER 19, 2025
The Bayraktar Shipping Group, tracing its roots back to a small machinery plant in the early 1920s, has grown into a global operator owning 14 modern ships—totaling 235,000 deadweight tons—that serve diverse trade routes worldwide.
Formed to meet the complex challenges of modern ship management, the company distinguishes itself by offering dedicated, personalized quality service and operational flexibility, contrasting itself with organizations that enforce rigid "blanket policies." The group merges deep shipping experience with technical know-how and a global approach to meet today’s strict standards in safety and environmental protection.
A Century of Growth in Ship Owning
The company’s legacy began in the early 1920s when Cpt. Arif Bayraktar started a business repairing pistons and maintaining shafts. His entrepreneurial spirit quickly led to the ownership of the M/V SON MODA coaster, mainly carrying coal in Black Sea ports.
-
1947: The company expanded by building its second vessel, the M/V ŞANAL, a 250 dwcc wooden coaster operating in the Marmara Sea.
-
1978: The firm realized its long-held ambition by building its first steel-constructed vessel, M/V ARIF KAPTAN, which continues to serve within Turkish Cabotage waters today.
Today, the modern fleet includes two Supramax type bulk carriers and other dry bulk, container, and general cargo vessels, serving customers across a multitude of global trade routes.
Personalized Service Over Rigid Policy
Bayraktar Shipping Group’s core objective is to offer dedicated quality service and personal involvement while still providing the supply benefits of a large company.
The company believes personal commitment is often lost in very large operations due to blanket policies. Therefore, Bayraktar offers the flexibility to hire the best team tailored to meet a ship owner’s specific needs, focusing on the specialized requirements of each asset.
The company's strength is rooted in its extensive experience in the total concept of ship operations and management, including:
-
Sale and Purchase (S&P)
-
Technical / Crew Management
-
Supervising for New Building
-
Bunkering
-
Insurance
Commitment to Safety and Sustainability
The group is focused on ensuring its vessels adhere to the highest safety and environmental standards. A proactive approach to safety and ongoing investment in people, environment, and quality are fundamental to the company's ethos.
Recognizing that shipping needs to be sustainable, the company works proactively to reduce its environmental impact, aiming to not only meet all compliance standards but also exceed them wherever possible. The continuous investment in the development and advancement of all employees is seen as fundamental to successfully implementing these strategies.
