Kremlin Says No Deal on Territory After Five-Hour Talks with US Envoys
Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov stated that while talks with US officials were constructive, no consensus was reached on the critical issue of occupied territories.

A senior advisor to Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced that "no compromise has been reached" regarding territorial disputes following a high-level meeting with United States officials in Moscow aimed at ending the four-year war in Ukraine.
Yuri Ushakov, a top Kremlin aide, told reporters on Wednesday that while the dialogue between Washington and Moscow was "constructive," the deadlock over land remains a primary obstacle. The Kremlin maintains that the crisis cannot be resolved without a settlement on this issue.
Constructive Yet Inconclusive Talks
The meeting, which lasted approximately five hours, involved President Putin, US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner. Ushakov characterized the session as "quite useful, constructive, and quite substantive," noting that the framework of the US peace proposal was discussed rather than specific phrasing.
Despite the positive tone, Ushakov was blunt about the lack of a breakthrough. When asked if peace was closer, he replied, "Not closer, that's for sure". He emphasized that significant work remains to be done in both capitals, though both sides agreed to continue contacts.
The Trump Peace Initiative
This latest diplomatic engagement is part of a renewed initiative by the Trump administration to broker a peace deal. The proposed plan reportedly includes demands that Kyiv has previously rejected, such as ceding the entire eastern Donbas region to Russia and abandoning its bid to join NATO.
"Some American proposals seem more or less acceptable, but they need to be discussed," Ushakov said, adding that other specific formulations proposed did not suit Moscow. He noted that Putin expressed a critical and even negative attitude toward certain suggestions during the talks.
Putin Accuses Europe of Sabotage
The meeting in Moscow followed discussions in Florida between US officials and a Ukrainian team. However, tensions with Europe remain high. President Putin on Tuesday accused Kyiv's European allies of sabotaging the US-led peace efforts.
"They have no peace agenda; they are on the side of war," Putin stated, alleging that European powers are blocking the process by replacing peace proposals with demands that are "absolutely unacceptable for Russia".
While reiterating that Russia has no plans to attack Europe, Putin warned that Moscow is ready if European nations decide to initiate a war. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated he is awaiting a rapid report from the US representatives regarding the feasibility of moving the talks forward.
