Syria denies agreement with SDG, halts all communication

WISE NEWS PRESS / DAMASCUS, SYRIA — 26 DECEMBER 2025

The Syrian Ministry of Information has officially refuted allegations of an agreement between the Damascus government and the PKK/YPG terrorist organization, operating under the name SDG, stating that communications are currently halted.

Deputy Minister of Information Ubada Kojan addressed the claims circulating on Qatar-based media, describing reports of a finalized deal as "misleading information" and unrealistic "wishes." Kojan emphasized that there is no current contact between the government and the group, noting that previous figures regarding the size of "asayish" or SDG forces reported in the press were inaccurate and lacked objectivity. Furthermore, the Ministry denied that the United States has been pressuring Damascus to reach an immediate resolution with the organization.

Failure to implement the March 10 memorandum

The Syrian government maintained that its position remains firm and constructive, having previously offered concrete proposals for integration. However, Kojan accused the SDG of stalling the process, stating that the time for a real breakthrough is running out before the March 10 memorandum can be fully implemented. The Ministry indicated that it is still waiting for a genuine opening and cooperation from the group's side to move forward with the established framework.

Narrowing options for the organization

Ahmed Mouvaffak Zeydan, Media Advisor to Syrian President Ahmed Shara, echoed these sentiments, suggesting that the SDG's strategic options are rapidly diminishing. Zeydan noted that the organization must bear responsibility for its failure to adhere to the March 10 agreement, which was signed in the presence of influential global powers including Türkiye and the United States. He concluded that the focus for the "New Syria" has shifted toward internal integration, reconstruction, and development, backed by increasing international support.
