New Trump assassination attempt in Washington sparks staged claims

WASHINGTON, USA — A planned armed assassination attempt against US President Donald Trump at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner in Washington was thwarted at the last minute by security forces.

The heavily armed suspect, apprehended in the hotel lobby before executing his plan, has ignited massive public debate. Details surrounding the suspect's attire and a widely circulated manifesto have led to viral claims across social media that the entire incident may have been politically staged.

Heavily guarded gala breached

According to details shared by journalist Fehmi Koru, the security presence at the event was at its highest level, given the attendance of President Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and War Secretary Pete Hegseth. Despite the tight security measures, the suspect managed to enter the Washington Hilton lobby fully armed. Early commentary blaming security failures quickly quieted down as more details about the immediate arrest emerged.

Suspect's IDF t-shirt removed

One of the most striking details of the incident was the suspect's attire. The individual entered the venue wearing a t-shirt bearing the text "Israeli Defence Forces" alongside the military branch's emblem. Security personnel reportedly stripped the shirt off the suspect immediately upon his capture, allegedly to prevent the media from capturing any photographs that could visually link the assassination attempt to Israel.

A politically charged manifesto

The suspect, identified as Cole Tomas Allen, had prepared a written manifesto intended to be read after the attack. In a bizarre turn of events, the president of the hosting association began reading the manifesto to the audience before Trump intervened and scolded him. The partial text revealed to the public highlighted the attacker's motives:

"I am a citizen of the United States. The actions of my representatives reflect on me. And I will no longer allow a pedophile, a rapist, and a traitor to soil my hands with his crimes. [...] Turning the other cheek while someone else is oppressed is not a Christian behavior; it is being complicit in the oppressor's crimes."

"Staged" trends on social media

Immediately following the reports of the thwarted attack, the word "staged" began trending heavily on X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk. Hundreds of thousands of Americans shared their suspicions that the event was a form of political theater. Reports that some attendees continued eating their meals instead of hiding under tables when gunshots were heard further fueled conspiracy theories that the crowd either expected the event or knew they were not in real danger.

Echoes of the Pennsylvania shooting

This is not the first time Trump has faced such threats or skepticism. During his election campaign in Pennsylvania, Trump survived a genuine assassination attempt when a bullet grazed his ear, fired by a young man named Thomas Matthew Crooks. That initial survival is widely credited by political analysts as a key factor in securing his second presidential term. The re-emergence of the "staged" narrative highlights the deeply entrenched polarization surrounding his administration.

Tensions with the press

The venue of the latest incident adds another layer of complexity. Trump, historically known for his fierce anti-media rhetoric, had boycotted the traditional White House Correspondents' Association dinner throughout his first term. His surprising decision to attend this year had already triggered boycotts from several invitees and drawn large protests outside the hotel. The chaos that unfolded inside has once again spotlighted the severe security vulnerabilities and deep divisions characterizing current US politics.
