TARMAKBİR: The 50-year local power of Turkish ag-machinery
Founded in 1978, TARMAKBİR represents nearly 200 manufacturers, driving Türkiye's agricultural mechanization from local workshops to global market leadership.
WISE NEWS PRESS / ANKARA, TÜRKİYE — 26 DECEMBER 2025
The Turkish Association of Agricultural Machinery and Equipment Manufacturers (TARMAKBİR), which originated from local repair workshops in the 1970s, has evolved into the primary representative of Türkiye's agricultural industry with 195 active members.
The association was officially established in 1978 following a strategic proposal by Tahir Yetim, then Head of the Machinery Department at the Ministry of Agriculture, to centralize the administrative and testing processes for local manufacturers. Today, TARMAKBİR’s membership spans from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to major global firms operating within Türkiye, with its strongest industrial presence located in Konya, followed by Istanbul and Izmir.
Global alliances and international representation
TARMAKBİR holds a unique position as the only non-governmental organization globally to be a simultaneous member of three major international umbrellas: Agrievolution, CEMA, and ReCAMA. Currently holding the presidency of the Regional Council of Agricultural Machinery Associations in Asia and the Pacific (ReCAMA), the association actively promotes Turkish agricultural technology across a vast geography. Since 2013, it has organized technical visits to 36 production facilities of 25 global brands, including John Deere, Claas, and Fendt, to enhance the vision of local manufacturers.
University-industry collaboration and R&D
Driving the transition from Industry 4.0 to Agriculture 4.0, TARMAKBİR utilizes its "Academic Advisory Group" to bridge scientific research with industrial production. The association has institutionalized the National Agricultural Mechanization and Energy Congresses, held since 1976, and organizes award-winning design competitions to encourage young engineering talent. These initiatives aim to bring innovative ideas to life in all areas of ag-tech, ranging from soil cultivation to advanced robotic systems.
Farmer education and sustainable agriculture
The association’s impact extends beyond manufacturing to the correct field application of technology. Through protocols with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, TARMAKBİR coordinates comprehensive training programs for farmers on smart farming applications and digital agricultural techniques, such as auto-steering and drone usage. These programs utilize state-of-the-art tractors and equipment provided by TARMAKBİR members, aiming to accelerate agricultural development and resource efficiency.
