Türkiye and Egypt sign 7 agreements: Focus on Gaza reconstruction

CAIRO, EGYPT — President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan signed 7 agreements that will carry the relations between the two countries to a new dimension at the historic summit held with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in Cairo. Speaking at the joint press conference, Erdoğan emphasized that Türkiye and Egypt would act together for the reconstruction of Gaza.

Coming together within the scope of the second meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, the leaders gave important messages on regional stability, trade, and humanitarian aid.

Joint vision for Gaza

Drawing attention to the thousand-year-old brotherhood ties with Egypt, President Erdoğan stated that the main agenda item of the talks was the Palestinian cause.

"We are working together with Egypt on initiatives that will make peace possible in Gaza. We will also contribute to the reconstruction of Gaza, which has been destroyed by Israeli attacks," Erdoğan said. He also thanked the Egyptian authorities for their cooperation in the delivery of humanitarian aid.

Signatures in 7 critical areas

Following the talks at the Al-Ittihadiyya Palace, the agreements signed in the presence of the two leaders cover a wide range from military cooperation to health and trade:

1. Military Framework Agreement

2. Cooperation in the Field of Medicine and Medical Device Regulation

3. Memorandum of Understanding on Plant Quarantine

4. Memorandum of Understanding on Veterinary Services

5. Joint Declaration on Investment and Foreign Trade

6. Cooperation in the Field of Social Protection

7. Cooperation in the Field of Youth and Sports

Togg surprise for Sisi

One of the most notable moments of the visit was the gift presentation. President Erdoğan presented Türkiye's domestic and national electric car, Togg, to Egyptian President Sisi.

Touching upon regional issues, Erdoğan stated, "Our entire region will be the biggest winner of a Syria whose territorial integrity is preserved. External intervention in Iran is a risk for the entire region; solving problems through diplomatic means is important."
