WISE NEWS PRESS / ISTANBUL, TURKEY — Nov. 12, 2025
The international PHRESH project, hosted by MLP Care, held its official launch meeting at Istinye University's Topkapı Campus in Istanbul, with representatives from seven countries in attendance. The PHRESH project focuses on AI-supported solutions, marking the new frontier of digital transformation in healthcare.
Seven countries convened at İstinye University's Topkapı Campus in Istanbul for the kickoff meeting of the PHRESH project, which focuses on artificial intelligence (AI) as the next step in digital healthcare transformation. The international PHRESH project, whose name stands for "Patient Health Response in Emergency and Secure Environments for Connected Health Services," brought together leading healthcare organizations, technology companies, and research centers from the Netherlands, Canada, Turkey, Spain, Portugal, Romania, and the United Kingdom.
The Era of Connected Health Services
The PHRESH framework project aims to shape connected, secure, and AI-supported healthcare ecosystems with a shared vision. Involving institutions and research organizations from seven different countries, it constitutes a comprehensive structure aimed at redefining health risk assessment, emergency intervention, and treatment processes.
Attending the event alongside country representatives were Dr. Hasan Selçuk Selek, Vice President of TÜBİTAK TEYDEB (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey), and Prof. Dr. Bestami Özkaya, Vice Rector of İstinye University.
'Proud to Develop Solutions for Improved Patient Outcomes'
Prof. Dr. Bestami Özkaya, Vice Rector of İstinye University and one of the scientific, academic, and strategic executives of the project, expressed his pleasure in being a part of the initiative, highlighting the university's leadership in health technologies:
"We are honored to host you all in Istanbul and host this important kickoff meeting. As MLP Care and İstinye University, we continue academic research and clinical applications together under one roof. We focus on innovation, AI-supported technologies, and international collaborations."
Prof. Dr. Özkaya stated: "The PHRESH project perfectly reflects this vision where science, technology, and clinical expertise converge for the benefit of patients. We are proud to actively contribute to developing solutions in Turkey for early diagnosis, better decision support, and improved patient outcomes." The university aims to continue leading innovation and shaping the future of health technology in the coming years.
A Meeting Set to Guide the Future
Esra Alkurt, Assistant Director of Project Management at MLP Care and a participant in the Turkish consortium, said the meeting strengthened international cooperation and knowledge sharing, calling it a strategic gathering that will guide the future of health technologies.
Alkurt elaborated on the project: "This initiative involves the integration of leading solutions such as high-accuracy sensors, real-time analysis techniques, AI-supported early warning systems, advanced data connectivity, and quantum-resistant encryption technologies."
The Turkish consortium aims to develop an integrated system—using AI and wearable technologies—that can work with hospital systems to support the early diagnosis and treatment of lung diseases in at-risk individuals, consisting of web and mobile applications for both patients and healthcare professionals.
Innovation Targeted in Four Key Areas
During the meeting, each country presented its case study, focusing on the PHRESH project's four core innovation areas:
-
Sense for Health: Continuous data monitoring with advanced sensors.
-
Alert to Prevent: AI-supported early warning systems.
-
Connected Transport: Ambulance-hospital data flow integrated with 5G/6G infrastructure.
-
Secure and Collaborative Learning: Privacy-enhancing and quantum-resistant security solutions.
Increasing Access to Healthcare Services
The project aims to provide significant added value by increasing the efficiency and competitiveness of companies through innovations like AI and digital health technologies. With the global digital health market expected to reach $505 billion by the end of 2025, the innovative health technologies introduced by the project are expected to increase company revenues and facilitate access to healthcare services in Turkey and globally.
