Erdogan to Discuss Grain Corridor, Gaza with Putin on Monday

WISE NEWS PRESS / JOHANNESBURG, South Africa — Nov. 24, 2025

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced he will hold a telephone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday to discuss restarting the Black Sea grain corridor and steps to halt the conflict in Gaza.

Speaking to reporters at the G20 Leaders' Summit in South Africa on Sunday, Erdogan highlighted the importance of the grain corridor for global peace and food security, while also emphasizing the global responsibility to alleviate the devastation in Gaza.

Erdogan stated that he would request Putin to restart the grain corridor, saying, "We had a grain corridor effort, as you know. The grain corridor initiatives were actually to open the way to peace. We wanted this corridor to reach both Europe and Africa. Unfortunately, we achieved this up to a certain point, but then the process did not continue."

Negotiating to Stop the Deaths

According to Milliyet, Erdogan continued his remarks by focusing on the humanitarian crisis. "Now, in the meeting we will hold tomorrow, I will ask Mr. Putin to restart this. I think it would be very beneficial if we could start this process," he said.

"Again, so many people have died; I will negotiate with him on what steps we can take to stop these deaths. After this negotiation, I think I will have the opportunity to discuss the result we will get with both European leaders, Mr. Trump, and other friends."

Erdogan also expressed satisfaction with the G20 summit being held in Africa for the first time and reiterated his emphasis on the global responsibility to mitigate the destruction in Gaza as much as possible.
