Intelligence Chief Ibrahim Kalın recites Al-Farabi’s profound prayer

WISE NEWS PRESS / ANKARA, TÜRKİYE — DEC. 28, 2025

Ibrahim Kalın, the Head of the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) of the Republic of Türkiye, recently appeared on the MyMecra channel during a program hosted by Serhat Tuncer. In a segment that has resonated deeply with audiences, Kalın shared and recited the historic prayer of Abu Nasr al-Farabi (870–950), one of the most influential philosophers of the Islamic Golden Age, emphasizing the thinker’s philosophical depth and spiritual refinement.

Kalın introduced the text by highlighting Al-Farabi’s "Unity of God" (Tawhid) understanding, which masterfully bridges the gap between scientific inquiry and spiritual yearning.

The Full Text of Al-Farabi’s Prayer

The prayer, as shared by Kalın, addresses the Divine through philosophical terminology and heartfelt supplication:

"In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful!

Ey Wajib al-Wujud! (O Necessary Being!) Ey Sabab al-Asbab! (O Cause of Causes!) O my Eternal and Everlasting God! Protect me from delusions. I ask You to make the actions that will please You my sole aim and effort.

O Lord of all worlds! Grant me all good virtues! Show me the truth as truth and grant me the path to follow it. Show me falsehood as falsehood and grant me the path to avoid it. Protect me from believing in falsehood and from listening to it.

Purify my soul from the structure of the first matter (the stain of matter, the captivity of lowly desires). Surely, You are the First Cause, the Cause of all causes!"

Philosophical Concepts in Supplication

During the recitation, Kalın pointed out the unique "beauty" of Al-Farabi incorporating complex philosophical concepts into a personal plea to the Creator. Specifically, he noted the mention of "Hyle" (the first matter), a heavily debated concept in philosophy, which Al-Farabi utilizes as a metaphor for spiritual purification.

The prayer further entreats: "O Lord, the owner and enlightener of the seven stars that flow in the universe like exuberant rivers... clothe me in the robes of beauty, give me goodness and grace. Grant me the miracles of prophets, the prosperity of the wealthy, the knowledge of the sages, and the happiness of the pious."

Seeking Wisdom and Light

Kalın underscored that for Al-Farabi, God is the "unique Cause of all existence" and the "Light of heaven and earth." The prayer concludes with a request for divine inspiration: "O God, Possessor of Majesty and Goodness! Adorn my soul with the light of wisdom. Inspire within me the blessing You have decreed as a gift for me."

By bringing this millennium-old text to a modern audience, Kalın emphasized that Al-Farabi’s pursuit of "Haqq" (Truth) remains a vital guide for navigating the complexities of the contemporary world, blending the rigor of the intellect with the sincerity of the heart.
