WISE NEWS PRESS / ANKARA, TÜRKİYE
Feti Yıldız, Deputy Chairman of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), announced on Tuesday that the final report of the National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission is expected to be released within the current month.
The statement followed a meeting where Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (TBMM), Numan Kurtulmuş, received the coordinators and deputy chairs of the commission overseeing the ongoing peace process. Speaking to reporters before the meeting, Yıldız indicated that the commission would soon begin drafting the document after agreeing on primary headings. He emphasized that the fundamental principles of the Republic of Türkiye remain non-negotiable and will serve as the framework for reaching a final consensus.
Discussions on Prison and Execution Reform
In addition to the peace process roadmap, Yıldız addressed the highly anticipated reforms regarding criminal execution laws, often referred to by the public as a "hidden amnesty". Key points from his statement include:
-
Scope of Reform: The current execution regulations affect approximately 50,000 individuals.
-
Legal Integrity: Yıldız proposed a comprehensive new execution law to replace the current "patchwork" system with a structure fully compliant with the Constitution.
-
Points of Negotiation: He noted that the only likely point of disagreement among political parties would be the specific reduction ratios for sentences.
-
Sentence Reductions: There is currently no pre-determined agreement to reduce sentences by half; these details remain subject to further negotiation.
Opposition Signals Constructive Cooperation
CHP Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir expressed optimism regarding the timeline and cooperation between parties. Emir stated that he does not foresee any significant delays or timing issues among the various political factions. He highlighted that all parties are acting with sincerity and a constructive attitude to fulfill their responsibilities. Emir concluded that it is in the public interest for the report to be finalized without delay and reaffirmed the CHP's commitment to contributing to the process.
