MIAMI, USA — US President Donald Trump delivered a highly controversial speech at the Saudi-backed Future Investment Initiative forum in Miami Beach, using derogatory language directed at Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) while demanding stricter compliance from Middle Eastern allies.
Amidst the escalating conflict with Iran, Trump's remarks shattered diplomatic norms, leaving the Saudi delegation and attendees stunned. The speech highlighted his transactional view of international relations, particularly emphasizing the role of US air defense systems in protecting Saudi Arabia.
"He has to be nice to me"
Focusing his address on the US military umbrella protecting Saudi Arabia, Trump bluntly stated that regional countries must "behave well" towards the US.
Directing his comments at the de facto Saudi ruler, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Trump used shockingly crude language that visibly shocked the Saudi delegation present.
"He never thought he’d have to kiss my ass, really never... And now he has to be nice to me... He better be nice to me, he has to be."
Following these heavy remarks, Trump dictated that Saudi Arabia must immediately join the "Abraham Accords" with Israel.
"I hate successful men"
President Trump's speech veered beyond foreign policy into bizarre personal confessions regarding his psychology and preferred company. Openly declaring his aversion to being surrounded by successful people, Trump stated:
"I hang out with unsuccessful people because it makes me feel better about myself. I hate men who are very, very successful and having to listen to their success stories. I like people (losers) who like to listen to my own successes."
He also pushed boundaries while addressing his relationship with the press, causing further astonishment in the room: "You can talk to me about anything. If you want to talk about sex, I'll talk about it."
Praise for Erdogan, criticism for NATO
Earlier in the day, Trump blasted Europe, claiming, "NATO has not helped us at all regarding Iran." However, during his Miami speech, he offered thanks to regional countries. Trump argued that Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Indonesia have been more helpful to the US than NATO.
The US President reserved special praise for Turkey and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. "I think Turkey was fantastic. Actually, they were great, and they stayed out of the things we asked them not to enter. They were extremely supportive. Erdogan is a great leader," Trump noted.
"Military operation," not war, and eyes on Cuba
Comparing the situation in Iran to Venezuela, Trump said, "We finished the job in Venezuela in 45 minutes, but Iran is bigger. We have 3,554 targets left, and it will be over quite quickly."
He admitted to striking Iran without Congressional approval through a legal wordplay: "If this is a war, you need to get approval from Congress. That's why I don't call it a war, I call it a military operation."
A notable moment occurred when Trump mistakenly referred to the "Strait of Hormuz" as the "Strait of Trump." Attempting a quick recovery, he said, "Now the fake news media will write that I said this by mistake. I don't make mistakes." Claiming that the Iranian leadership "blows up every two days" and that "they don't even know who the leader is," Trump signaled that Cuba would be the next military target.
"If I didn't get a Nobel, no one ever will"
Closing the night by evaluating his own political career, Trump claimed to have stopped eight wars during his presidency and rebelled against the Nobel Peace Prize committee. "If I didn't get the Nobel Peace Prize, no one ever will. And I'm not surprised I didn't get it," he stated.
Reflecting on his initial 2016 run, Trump concluded with a candid admission: "Even I didn't know why I entered the presidential race; they thought it was for fun."
