Beyli Shipping evolves from family business to international chemical powerhouse

WISE NEWS PRESS / ISTANBUL, TURKEY — Nov. 22, 2025

Established in January 1985 under the leadership of Selahattin Beyli, the company has successfully transitioned from a modest family-run tanker operation into a significant international maritime player, now commanding a specialized fleet of seven stainless steel chemical tankers.

With a history spanning four decades, the firm stands as a testament to strategic diversification, having evolved through oil transport and dry cargo shipping before solidifying its expertise in the high-stakes chemical transport sector.

A 40-year maritime legacy

The company’s foundations were laid by Selahattin Beyli, a veteran of the trade who entered the profession in the 1970s. By 1985, he established the family company, initially focusing on tanker management.

The fleet's journey began in 1987 with the acquisition of the "Kara Cevher," a 450 DWT (deadweight tonnage) tanker built in 1957. This was quickly followed by the "Isıkurt 1" in 1988, which was upgraded to 600 DWT, and the "Bizim Reis" tanker (1000 DWT) in the same year, marking the company's early dominance in local oil transport.

Strategic diversification and fleet growth

In the early 1990s, the management made a pivotal decision to diversify into dry cargo transportation alongside its tanker operations. This era saw the acquisition of the "Tekmar 1" (2750 DWT) in 1992, followed by the "Yeniyapan" dry cargo vessel in 1995.

Throughout the late 90s, the fleet continued to expand with the addition of the "Sitarem" (3750 DWT) and the "Afrin" (4058 DWT), showcasing a dual-capability in handling both liquid and dry goods.

The shift to chemical transport

Recognizing shifting global demands, the company entered the chemical transport sector in 2004. This strategic pivot began with the purchase of the "Celfin" (6930 DWT) and the "Zoppun" (5380 DWT).

Since 2009, the firm has aggressively modernized its assets, acquiring a series of high-capacity vessels including the "Parsa," "Alahan," "Narlıca," "Duruca," "Alatepe," and "Günece." The most recent major addition, the 10,106 DWT "Fericek" in 2019, capped off a fleet of seven modern stainless chemical tankers currently serving international routes.

Commitment to safety and environment

Operating in the sensitive sectors of chemical, oil, and dry cargo transport, the firm enforces a rigorous Integrated Management System Policy. The company has pledged to prioritize customer focus while minimizing environmental impact.

"We are committed to using appropriate resources and technology to be the best in the sector, keeping environmental dimensions under control, and reducing pollution," the corporate policy states.

The management emphasizes a "zero tolerance" approach to safety risks, ensuring compliance with all legal regulations and providing continuous training to motivate employees and ensure a safe working environment.
