Epstein files reveal discussions on Putin's potential successor

ANKARA, TURKEY —  Newly released documents from the Jeffrey Epstein investigation disclose internal discussions regarding Russian President Vladimir Putin’s potential successor and include mentions of other prominent world leaders, including Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Emmanuel Macron.

The disclosure follows U.S. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche’s release of over three million additional files, which have intensified public scrutiny over the geopolitical reach of Epstein’s former network. The documents, dating back as far as 2012, provide a window into alleged discussions regarding political unrest in Russia and various requests for international governance advice involving European leaders.

Political succession in Russia

A document dated January 11, 2012, highlights discussions surrounding Ilya Ponomarev, who was then a member of the Duma, the lower house of the Russian Parliament. The file identifies Ponomarev as one of the "main organizers of the uprising against the President."

The document explicitly states: "If he is not killed, he could replace Putin and become president himself (it will happen sooner or later)." Ponomarev later moved to Ukraine, obtaining a residence permit in 2016 and citizenship in 2019. He currently faces several legal cases in Russia.

Ukraine and Zelenskyy’s appeal

The files also contain an email from 2019 mentioning Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The correspondence suggests that Zelenskyy was "seeking help" during a period of heightened tension.

The email claims that President Putin displayed a "dismissive attitude" toward Zelenskyy, allegedly remarking that the Ukrainian leader was "being managed by Israelis." This particular exchange sheds light on the disparaging diplomatic atmosphere Epstein was reportedly monitoring or discussing with his associates during the transition of power in Ukraine.

Macron’s alleged consultations with Epstein

The name of French President Emmanuel Macron appears frequently in documents both before and after his 2017 election. Epstein claimed in various correspondences that Macron sought his advice on "almost every subject," including science, policy, and institutional governance.

On September 17, 2018, Epstein sent an email to Borge Brende, the President of the World Economic Forum (WEF), claiming Macron had asked for "socio-economic innovations" to foster a "more progressive future." Additional records from 2016 show business mogul Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem informing Epstein of a lunch meeting at the Élysée Palace with Macron, who was the Finance Minister at the time. In a later email from August 2018, Epstein characterized Macron as an ambitious leader who "wants to lead Europe, maybe the world."

Background of the Epstein Case

Jeffrey Epstein, who was accused of operating a sex trafficking ring involving dozens of minors, was found dead in his Manhattan prison cell on August 10, 2019. Previous file releases have mentioned numerous high-profile figures, including Donald Trump, Bill Clinton, and Prince Andrew.

Despite the recurring names in the files, the FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice maintain that there is no evidence of a formal "client list" that would implicate these figures in Epstein’s specific crimes. Furthermore, federal investigations concluded that Epstein's death was a suicide, dismissing various conspiracy theories regarding his demise.
