MYKOLAIV, UKRAINE — Residents of Mykolaiv gathered on February 1 to observe a minute of silence in memory of those who have lost their lives during the ongoing war.
The weekly campaign, titled "Stop! Honor!" (Остановись! Почти!), took place at 09:00 local time. Citizens united in a central act of remembrance, a tradition reported by Suspilne that has become a cornerstone of the city's wartime culture. According to Alla Tkachenko, an inspector for the National Police's preventive communication sector, approximately 30 people participated in the morning's event.

The event serves as a platform for residents to express their gratitude toward the defenders of Ukraine. Anna, a local resident who participated for the first time, emphasized that such rituals are vital for the nation's collective memory.
“This is our culture; this is the memory of those who protected us and, unfortunately, are no longer with us," Anna stated. She added that she honors the fallen daily by playing recordings of the minute of silence, even while traveling on public transport.
Broader support for Ukrainian forces
The memorial event was part of a day of significant community activity in the city. In addition to the minute of silence, another rally was held in Mykolaiv on February 1 to support Ukrainian military personnel currently held in captivity or listed as missing in action. These dual events highlight the city's ongoing commitment to honoring both the fallen and those still facing the hardships of war.
