Russia strikes Kyiv all day: Drone hits apartment, warehouse burns

KYIV, Ukraine — Russian forces struck Kyiv throughout Sunday, September 27, with drones hitting residential and civilian areas in at least four districts of the Ukrainian capital.

The attacks damaged an apartment building, sparked fires in several locations and sent debris falling near a kindergarten and a children’s playground, according to Ukrainian officials. Kyiv residents were urged to remain in shelters as air alerts and reports of new explosions continued during the day.

Apartment building hit in Darnytskyi district

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said a drone struck a nine-story residential building in the Darnytskyi district. A fire broke out around the fifth and ninth floors of the building.

Emergency crews responded to the scene, while medics provided assistance to one injured woman on site. Initial reports did not indicate a higher number of casualties at that location.

Debris also fell on the grounds of a kindergarten in the same district. Another fire was reported at a non-residential site nearby, underscoring the risk to civilians and public spaces during the attack.

Cars burned after repeated strikes

The Solomianskyi district, which had already been hit earlier in the day, came under attack again later. Falling drone debris set several vehicles on fire.

In the Holosiivskyi district, debris landed in a park area. At another location, a fire broke out in open ground after drone fragments fell. Officials also reported that cars caught fire in the district.

Drone debris was found near a children’s playground as well. The incident added to concerns that civilian neighborhoods, public recreation areas and facilities used by children were directly exposed to the consequences of the strike.

At least four districts affected

The day’s attacks affected several parts of Kyiv, including the Shevchenkivskyi, Solomianskyi, Darnytskyi and Holosiivskyi districts.

Earlier in the day, Ukrainian authorities reported impacts in the Shevchenkivskyi and Solomianskyi districts. As the attacks continued, new fires and debris falls were reported across the city.

Emergency services worked at multiple sites, extinguishing fires, checking damaged areas and securing locations where drone fragments had fallen. Officials warned residents not to approach debris or suspected unexploded objects.

Kärcher warehouse destroyed

A warehouse belonging to the German company Kärcher was completely destroyed during the Russian attack on Kyiv, according to the company’s Ukrainian branch.

The warehouse reportedly stored equipment and goods. The company said no one was injured in the incident, but orders that were at the warehouse at the time of the strike were delayed or canceled.

Kärcher said it would contact each affected partner to discuss the situation and coordinate further steps. The company did not disclose the exact location of the destroyed warehouse.

Casualties reported in Kyiv and region

The latest attacks followed earlier reports of casualties in Kyiv and the surrounding region. During the night, a man was killed in the Solomianskyi district of Kyiv as a result of a Russian drone attack.

In the Kyiv region, one person was killed and three others were injured in a strike on Vyshneve. Fires were also reported at logistics and business facilities in the region.

The attacks again highlighted the growing danger to civilian infrastructure, residential buildings, warehouses, vehicles and public spaces in and around Ukraine’s capital.

Damage assessment continues

Ukrainian officials said damage assessment work was ongoing as emergency crews continued to respond to the aftermath of the strikes.

Authorities called on residents to follow air alert warnings, stay in shelters when instructed and rely on official information as the situation developed.

The full scale of the damage was still being clarified, but early reports showed that residential, commercial and public areas were all affected by the day-long assault.
