Russia warns NATO: Aggressive rhetoric undermines peace efforts
Maria Zakharova slammed NATO's call for a more aggressive stance, labeling it a "deliberate attempt" to sabotage ongoing Ukraine peace initiatives.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has strongly condemned remarks by NATO Military Committee Chair Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, who advocated for a more aggressive stance against Moscow, labeling the comments as an "irresponsible attempt" to undermine peace efforts.
At a time when diplomatic solutions for the Ukraine crisis are being explored, hawkish statements from NATO's top military brass have once again escalated tensions between Moscow and the West. Zakharova argued that NATO officials are creating an atmosphere that risks international security through allegations of "hybrid attacks."
'Deliberate attempt to sabotage'
Zakharova targeted Dragone's recent interview with the Financial Times, in which he suggested that the Alliance needs to be more aggressive in countering Russia. The Russian spokesperson asserted that such rhetoric is not merely verbal but damaging to ongoing resolution efforts on the ground.
"We view this as a deliberate attempt to undermine efforts to resolve the Ukrainian crisis," Zakharova stated. "Those making such statements must understand the emerging risks and possible consequences, including for alliance members themselves."
Accusations of false narratives
Moscow reiterated its stance that NATO's claim of being a "purely defensive alliance" does not reflect reality. Zakharova contended that the Alliance continues to accuse Russia of unproven "hybrid attacks" and "aggressive nuclear rhetoric" to legitimize its own aggressive policies.
According to Zakharova, the narrative cultivated in Western capitals that "Russia poses an imminent threat" further fuels the negative atmosphere and blocks potential channels for dialogue.
