Macron, Zelenskyy discuss Trump's peace plan in Paris meeting
Meeting at the Elysee, Macron and Zelenskyy analyzed Trump's 28-point peace proposal, Geneva talks, and Europe's strategic role in ending the war.

French President Emmanuel Macron hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the Elysee Palace to evaluate the 28-point peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine war.
As the conflict continues to shape global geopolitics, Zelenskyy’s 10th official visit to Paris comes at a pivotal moment. The leaders focused on the details of the American proposal, ongoing diplomatic contacts in Geneva, and the necessity of aligning any peace deal with Europe's long-term security interests.
The 28-point proposal under review
The central topic of the summit was the comprehensive peace draft prepared by the Trump administration, which has recently dominated diplomatic agendas in Western capitals.
The meeting in Paris followed high-level consultations in Florida between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Rustem Umerov, Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council. Both sides described those talks as "very productive." Additionally, technical discussions held by delegations in Geneva on Nov. 23 were reviewed by Macron and Zelenskyy.
Focus on China's influence
France is actively seeking to involve major global powers in the pressure campaign against Moscow. Ahead of Macron's upcoming visit to China this week, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot highlighted Beijing's potential role.
Barrot stated that France expects China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, to exert pressure on Russia. Paris believes that steps taken by Beijing could be instrumental in persuading Russian President Vladimir Putin to agree to a ceasefire.
Europe seeks strategic adjustments
President Macron has previously expressed caution regarding the US proposal, noting on Nov. 25 that the plan contains points that "must be negotiated in favor of Europeans." The Paris meeting is seen as a critical step in ensuring that Europe's security concerns are integrated into the US-led peace initiative and that the continent maintains an active role in the resolution process.
