MYKOLAIV, UKRAINE — Three people were killed after an SUV crashed into a parked truck and ignited on the Bashtanka-Bereznehuvate road in Ukraine's Mykolaiv region on Friday, February 27, 2026.

The incident, which occurred near the village of Yavkyne, resulted in the occupants becoming trapped inside the wreckage as the vehicle was engulfed in flames. Emergency responders arriving at the scene found the car completely destroyed by the fire, making it difficult to immediately confirm the exact make and model of the vehicle.

Details of the Collision and Fire

Preliminary investigations suggest that the vehicle struck a large truck that was parked on the shoulder of the highway. Following the impact, the SUV caught fire almost immediately. The force of the collision reportedly jammed the doors and crumpled the chassis, leaving the three individuals inside unable to escape the growing blaze.

Rescue teams and police units are currently at the location to manage the aftermath of the crash. Traffic along this section of the Bashtanka-Bereznehuvate road remains significantly restricted as officials conduct a forensic analysis of the site.

Escalating Road Safety Concerns

This tragedy marks the second major fatal collision involving a truck and an SUV in the region within a short period. Just days ago, a similar accident occurred on the M-14 highway near the village of Polovynky.

In that previous incident, a Volvo truck with a semi-trailer collided with a Hyundai Terracan, resulting in the deaths of three other individuals. Local authorities have highlighted the recurring nature of these high-impact collisions, which often result in total vehicle loss and multiple fatalities.

Investigation and Site Recovery

Rescuers are working to recover the remains from the charred wreckage while police investigate the specific circumstances that led the SUV to strike the stationary truck. Identifying the victims and the exact vehicle specifications is currently a primary focus for the forensic teams on-site.

Motorists traveling through the Mykolaiv region have been advised to exercise caution and expect delays near Yavkyne while the recovery operation continues.
