MYKOLAIV, UKRAINE — Mykolaiv Governor Vitaliy Kim announced that Ukraine will establish a formal registry for Starlink terminals, following a prior announcement by Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.
Instructions regarding the registration process are expected to be provided in the near future. The initiative is specifically designed to render it impossible for Russian forces to utilize Starlink technology on Ukrainian territory, effectively neutralizing a key communication asset currently exploited by the occupying military.
Countering Russian mass use on drones
According to Governor Kim, Russian forces have begun using Starlink terminals on their drones at a mass scale, which has significantly complicated the operations of Ukrainian Electronic Warfare (EW) units. By documenting and verifying every terminal in the combat zone, the Ukrainian defense aims to restore the effectiveness of its jamming systems against enemy aerial assets.
Criminal charges for illegal registration
The authorities issued a stern warning to citizens against registering third-party or unknown Starlink devices under their own names. Kim emphasized that if a registered terminal is subsequently discovered on a downed enemy drone, the individual who registered the device will most likely face criminal prosecution.
