DAMASCUS, SYRIA — The YPG terrorist organization violated a newly extended ceasefire agreement near Ayn al-Arab by launching more than 25 kamikaze drone strikes against Syrian army positions and civilian areas.
According to a report by Syrian state television Al-Ikhbariya, the Syrian Army Operations Command confirmed that the YPG utilized FPV-type kamikaze drones in the assault, resulting in the destruction of four military vehicles. The escalation occurs just days after the Syrian Ministry of Defense announced a 15-day extension of the ceasefire, effective from 11:00 PM on January 24, to facilitate the transfer of ISIS detainees by the U.S. from YPG-controlled prisons to Iraq. Military officials warned that "field options are being reviewed" in response to the targeting of soldiers and non-combatants.
Civilians and M4 Highway Targeted
The attacks were not limited to military outposts; the YPG also repeatedly targeted the strategic M4 highway and surrounding villages. These strikes resulted in several civilian injuries, further destabilizing the region during what was intended to be a diplomatic pause in hostilities.
Siege and Detentions in al-Shuyukh
Beyond the aerial strikes, the Syrian Army Operations Command reported that the YPG is continuing a "systematic policy" of arresting civilians. In the village of al-Shuyukh, several families were reportedly placed under siege by the group in an attempt to forcibly detain their sons. This ground activity led to direct clashes with local residents, causing further casualties and sparking local resistance against the terrorist group's presence.
