KYIV, UKRAINE — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that tripartite peace negotiations involving Ukraine, Russia, and the United States may continue on American soil in the near future.
Following a recent round of talks held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on February 4-5, Zelenskyy shared insights in a video message, suggesting a potential shift in the venue for upcoming discussions aimed at ending the ongoing conflict.
'Next talks likely in the US'
Reflecting on the Abu Dhabi meetings, Zelenskyy noted that while he awaits full details from the Ukrainian delegation upon their return to Kyiv, the diplomatic momentum appears to be shifting westward.
"It can be said that the next talks are planned to be held in the near future. Probably in the United States," Zelenskyy stated, signaling a significant development in international efforts to broker peace.
He also highlighted the tangible results of the recent negotiations, specifically the successful exchange of 314 prisoners of war between Russia and Ukraine. Zelenskyy emphasized the necessity of continuing this exchange process as a critical humanitarian component of the dialogue.
Constructive dialogue in Abu Dhabi
Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and head of the Ukrainian delegation, described the two-day talks in Abu Dhabi as productive.
"The talks were constructive and focused on creating the necessary conditions for ensuring a lasting peace," Umerov said in a statement on social media.
Umerov confirmed that the resumption of prisoner exchanges after a five-month hiatus was a key outcome. He added that delegations engaged in comprehensive discussions on unresolved issues, including the implementation of a ceasefire and post-conflict monitoring.
"The delegations agreed to inform their respective capitals and to continue tripartite talks in the coming weeks," Umerov concluded.
