MHP's Topsakal praises Albayrak for gold repatriation strategy

ANKARA, TURKIYE — Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Vice Chairman İlyas Topsakal has characterized former Treasury and Finance Minister Berat Albayrak's initiative to repatriate Turkey's gold assets from abroad as a critical and visionary move for the country's economic independence.

Speaking in an exclusive interview regarding Turkey's progress in the economy and defense industry, Topsakal emphasized that this strategic step was taken with "state wisdom" years before other nations recognized the necessity of such measures to secure national assets against global risks.

A visionary step before global trends

Topsakal drew particular attention to the timing of the repatriation operation. He noted that Turkey secured its assets before global awareness of financial risks and the weaponization of reserves heightened. He expressed gratitude for the policy implemented during Albayrak's tenure, viewing it as a safeguard for national sovereignty.

"Berat Albayrak brought the gold back during his time, and we must thank him for this," Topsakal stated. "When did he do this? He did it before the world was even aware of this business. No one should have any doubt about Turkey's state wisdom."

Strengthening the Central Bank for independence

The MHP official argued that the repatriation of gold was not merely a financial decision but a matter of national sovereignty and strategic foresight. He pointed out that Turkey's ability to read global risks early allowed it to position itself advantageously compared to other nations that only recently began prioritizing physical gold reserves.

"Other countries started doing this 5-6 years after us," Topsakal observed, highlighting that Turkey was a pioneer in strengthening Central Bank assets to ensure independence. "This means Turkey is constantly strengthening its Central Bank assets. Why? You do this for independence."

Synergy between economy and defense

Topsakal concluded by noting that Turkey's economic maneuvers are inextricably linked to its military developments, describing them as part of a unified effort toward full national independence.

He stressed that economic freedom and a robust defense industry are complementary forces. "Turkey has developed itself; we have done very important works in the military sense," he said, indicating that the foresight to secure financial reserves provided the stability needed for broader national growth.
