Criminal Complaint Filed Against Serbian President Vučić Over Bosnian War Sniper Claims

WISE NEWS PRESS / MILAN, ITALY — NOVEMBER 19, 2025

A criminal complaint has been filed with the Milan Public Prosecutor's Office against Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, alleging that he was among the snipers surrounding Sarajevo during the 1992-1995 Bosnian War.

The complaint comes amid a wider ongoing investigation in Milan targeting those who traveled from Italy on "weekend tours" to act as "leisure snipers" during the Bosnian conflict. The renewed focus on the siege of Sarajevo has brought years of suffering back into the global spotlight.

Vučić Accused of Targeting Civilians

According to the Italian ANSA agency, Croatian investigative journalist Domogoj Margetić lodged the complaint against the Serbian leader. Margetić alleges that Vučić was involved in the atrocities committed by snipers during the siege of Sarajevo, presenting evidence that the President was present at Serbian nationalist military positions where civilians were targeted.

The journalist's filing adds a high-profile figure to the investigation, which began after a complaint was accepted by the Milan Public Prosecutor's Office in February. That initial complaint, filed by Italian journalist and author Ezio Gavazzeni, claimed that wealthy individuals from Western countries traveled to Sarajevo, paying huge sums to Serbian snipers for the "entertainment" of shooting Bosnian civilians.

Gavazzeni previously stated that people from Western nations, including Italians, Germans, and the French, were paying enormous sums to shoot civilians, particularly in Sarajevo, between 1992 and 1996.

The Horror of the Sarajevo Siege

The siege of Sarajevo, which began on April 6, 1992, remains one of the darkest chapters of the Bosnian War. Throughout the 3.5-year siege, the city was constantly shelled and targeted by snipers from Serbian forces.

A total of 11,541 civilians, including 1,601 children, lost their lives during the siege. The widespread use of snipers to target civilians led to scenes of terror and suffering that scarred the city's history and resulted in immense damage to its cultural infrastructure.
