Explosion in Moscow Kills Three Including Two Police Officers

WISE NEWS PRESS / MOSCOW, RUSSIA — DEC. 25, 2025

An explosion in southern Moscow killed three people, including two police officers, during a late-night security check, according to official reports from Russian investigative authorities.

The incident occurred when police approached a suspicious individual waiting near a patrol vehicle. As the officers attempted to conduct a search, a device was detonated, instantly killing two traffic police officers and the third person at the scene. Reports circulating on social media suggest that the third deceased individual was the attacker who detonated an explosive belt as security forces closed in.

Federal Investigation Launched

Alexander Bastrykin, the head of the Russian Investigative Committee, has ordered a formal investigation into the "killing of law enforcement officers and the illegal use of explosives". Authorities are currently reviewing security footage and conducting forensic analysis to determine the exact nature of the explosive used.

The blast comes just days after a high-profile assassination in the capital. On Monday, Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, a high-ranking military official, was killed when a bomb planted under his vehicle exploded. Sarvarov is the third Russian general to be assassinated within the past year.

Escalating Targeted Attacks

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine nearly four years ago, there has been a significant increase in targeted attacks against Russian military officials and supporters of the conflict. While Ukrainian military intelligence has previously claimed responsibility for similar operations, no group has officially claimed the latest overnight blast.

Security measures in Moscow have been elevated to the highest level following these back-to-back incidents. Experts suggest that targeted strikes against security and military personnel are becoming more frequent as the conflict enters its fourth year.
