Putin Says Russia Ready for War if Europe Seeks Conflict
Vladimir Putin accused European nations of sabotaging peace efforts and warned that Moscow is ready for direct conflict if the continent chooses war.
WISE NEWS PRESS / MOSCOW, RUSSIA — DEC. 3, 2025
Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that Moscow is fully prepared for military confrontation if Europe seeks it, accusing Western capitals of deliberately sabotaging ongoing peace initiatives regarding the war in Ukraine.
Speaking at the "Russia Calling!" investment forum in Moscow, the Russian leader escalated rhetoric against European governments, alleging that they are obstructing diplomatic efforts led by Washington to prolong the conflict rather than resolve it.
Allegations of Sabotaged Peace Talks
Putin claimed that specific peace proposals, including those spearheaded by Donald Trump’s special representative Steve Witkoff, are being systematically dismantled by European interference. According to Putin, European leaders are imposing conditions they know Moscow cannot accept to ensure the failure of negotiations.
"They have no peace agenda. They are on the side of war," Putin stated during the forum. "Their attempts regarding Trump's proposal are intended to completely clog the process. They put conditions on the table that they know Russia will never accept, and then they want to hold us responsible for the collapse of the process."
Warning to European Capitals
While emphasizing that Russia does not seek a direct conflict with Europe, Putin issued a stern warning regarding the continent's current stance. He suggested that the "maximum pressure" strategy adopted by European nations is pushing the region closer to a wider war.
"We have no intention of fighting with Europe. I have said this many times," Putin said. "But if Europe decides to start a war, we are ready for it right now."
Maritime Escalation and Tanker Attacks
Addressing the operational aspects of the conflict, Putin also responded to recent reports of Ukrainian attacks targeting tankers linked to Russia. He threatened a significant escalation in the naval theater, warning that Moscow could move to "cut Ukraine off from the sea completely" if such strikes continue.
The Kremlin had previously indicated openness to discussing certain elements of a peace framework but rejected revised texts proposed by European officials. Putin's latest remarks suggest a deepening diplomatic freeze, with Moscow viewing European involvement as an impediment to any potential settlement brokered by other international actors.
