Turkey deploys convoys to Syria as Damascus reinforces Deir ez-Zor

WISE NEWS PRESS / ANKARA, TURKEY — DEC. 08, 2025

Footage has emerged showing the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) dispatching military shipments to Syria through Afrin, Rasulayn, and north of Aleppo, with convoys reportedly advancing toward the Manbij line.

Simultaneously, the Damascus government has dispatched new military reinforcements, supported by artillery and UAVs, to the Deir ez-Zor region currently under the control of the SDF. These synchronized movements follow a rare official visit by Turkish Chief of General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu to Damascus on Dec. 5-6, signaling a potential new security process between the two nations.

Convoys Moving Toward Manbij

According to information from the region, TSK convoys containing armored vehicles and logistical units entered Syrian territory late at night. One convoy reportedly crossed through the Deyr Ballut border gate into the Aleppo region, while another entered via the Advaniyah border gate.

These logistical movements are concentrated toward the Manbij line, a strategic area often at the center of security concerns. The Turkish Ministry of National Defense has not yet issued an official statement regarding the footage circulating on social media.

Damascus Reinforces Deir ez-Zor

Parallel to Turkey's moves, Syrian government forces have initiated shipments to Deir ez-Zor, a region with a dense Arab population currently controlled by the SDF. Local sources report that artillery batteries, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and a significant number of personnel have been deployed to the area.

The reinforcements are primarily being carried out by the 86th Division and are concentrated on points in the western countryside of the city. This military buildup strengthens claims of cooperation between Arab tribes within the SDF and the Damascus administration, suggesting a reshaping of power balances in the region.

Claims of a Deadline

The military activity coincides with reports from Reuters suggesting that Turkey has given the SDF a deadline until the end of the year regarding integration with Damascus. Journalist Nevzat Çiçek noted on social media that these developments, occurring immediately after the talks in Damascus, are interpreted as signs of a new preparation in the field.
