Zelensky's chief of staff Yermak resigns amid corruption probe

WISE NEWS PRESS / KIEV, UKRAINE — Nov. 28, 2025

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a major shake-up within his administration on Thursday, confirming the resignation of Andriy Yermak, the influential Head of the Presidential Office.

The announcement comes hours after Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) conducted searches at Yermak's residence, signaling a new phase in the country's ongoing battle against high-level graft.

"No questions left about Ukraine"

In a statement addressing the resignation, Zelensky emphasized the need for transparency and trust. "I want there to be no questions left in anyone's mind about Ukraine. Therefore, as part of the internal decisions we made today, the Office of the President of Ukraine will be reorganized. Head of the Office Andriy Yermak submitted his resignation today," the president said.

Zelensky expressed gratitude for Yermak's service, particularly his role in presenting Ukraine's position during critical negotiations. "As for the new head of the Presidential Office, I will hold consultations tomorrow with people capable of leading this institution," he added, while urging the public to avoid speculation regarding the ongoing investigation.

Raids and allegations

Earlier in the day, anti-corruption officials searched Yermak's apartment on Bankova Street in Kiev. Yermak, widely considered the second most powerful figure in Ukraine since Zelensky's 2019 election victory, confirmed the raid on social media, stating he was fully cooperating with law enforcement and that investigators faced no obstacles.

The resignation follows a mounting pressure campaign linked to a broader corruption scandal in the energy sector. On Nov. 10, NABU and SAPO revealed a massive bribery scheme involving the state nuclear energy company Energoatom, implicating business figures and government advisors.

Changes to the peace delegation

Yermak's departure also impacts Ukraine's diplomatic front. Zelensky announced that the composition of the Ukrainian delegation for peace talks, which Yermak was set to lead in Switzerland on Nov. 23, would be revised. The new team will include representatives from the National Security and Defense Council, the General Staff, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and intelligence agencies.
