70 years of cultural partnership: Turkish-German ties celebrated

The Turkish-German Cultural Affairs Association celebrated its 70th anniversary with a special ceremony at the German Consulate General in Istanbul, marking seven decades of what leaders described as "mutual learning and lasting friendship."

Held at the historic Kaisersaal Hall, the event brought together prominent figures from the worlds of academia, art, and culture. Founded in 1955 with the mission of revitalizing bilateral relations and organizing language courses for adults, the association used the milestone to both review its historical impact and signal new collaborations for the future.

A legacy of diplomacy and dialogue

The evening featured opening remarks from German Consul General in Istanbul Dr. Regine Grienberger, Goethe-Institut Istanbul Director Mani Pournaghi Azar, and Association President Prof. Dr. Canan Şenöz Ayata.

The speakers emphasized that the 70-year journey of Turkish-German relations extends far beyond a mere diplomatic partnership. Instead, it was characterized as a continuous process of learning and sharing that has built a permanent cultural bridge between the two nations.

Bridges beyond borders

The program also included an academic segment focusing on the sociological and educational aspects of the partnership. Prof. Dr. Nilüfer Tapan delivered a presentation titled "Bridges Beyond Borders: 70 Years of Living Cultural Partnership," detailing the historical development of relations and the transformative effects of cultural interaction on society.

Following Tapan, Prof. Dr. Neşe Onural spoke on "Education is a Bridge: The Turkish-German Common Path of Life," addressing the opportunities that educational cooperation offers to younger generations.

Association officials concluded the event by reaffirming their commitment to new projects designed to carry the shared Turkish-German cultural heritage into the future.
