Applications open for the M. Gazi Yaşargil Young Neurosurgeon Award
Yeditepe University has opened applications for the 5th M. Gazi Yaşargil Young Neurosurgeon Award, honoring the legacy of the "Neurosurgeon of the Century."

ISTANBUL, TURKEY — Yeditepe University has announced the opening of applications for the fifth annual "M. Gazi Yaşargil Young Neurosurgeon Award," designed to keep the legacy of the renowned "Neurosurgeon of the Century" alive and to inspire young scientists worldwide.
The award program, organized by the Department of Neurosurgery at Yeditepe University Faculty of Medicine, aims to bring together young neurosurgeons from all over the globe in Istanbul to recognize outstanding scientific contributions in the fields of microneurosurgery and microsurgical anatomy.
Prof. Dr. M. Gazi Yaşargil, who fundamentally changed the course of modern neurosurgery, left a permanent mark on world medical history by developing microsurgical techniques and popularizing the use of the surgical microscope. The methods he implemented, particularly in the surgery of brain vascular diseases and tumors, are accepted as standard on a global scale today. Having touched the lives of thousands of patients throughout his career, Yaşargil also shaped the future of the field through the surgeons he trained.
Evaluation and announcement process
As part of the award process, scientific studies focusing on microneurosurgery and microsurgical anatomy will be meticulously evaluated by an independent international scientific committee. The winner of the prestigious award will be officially announced during the 14th Istanbul Yaşargil Microneurosurgery Course, which is scheduled to be held on June 20, 2026.
Application requirements and deadlines
To be eligible for the award, candidates must meet specific criteria. Applicants must be 40 years of age or younger, actively working as a neurosurgeon or a neurosurgery resident, and be the primary author of the submitted article. Furthermore, the submitted study must be strictly within the field of microneurosurgery or microsurgical anatomy.
A key requirement is that the article must have been published in an SCI-indexed journal within the year 2025. Online ahead-of-print articles will not be taken into consideration by the evaluation committee.
Candidates who wish to apply are required to submit their curriculum vitae, a letter of recommendation, and a PDF copy of their published article. The final deadline for all applications is May 1, 2026.
