Countdown to Conflict: Syrian Army Prepares 80,000 Troops as YPG Ultimatum Nears
With only 15 days left for the YPG/SDF to integrate into the Damascus administration, the Syrian army is mobilizing 80,000 soldiers. President Erdoğan warns that the March 10 Agreement must be implemented to avoid a crisis.
WORLD / ANKARA, TURKEY — DEC 17, 2025
As the year-end deadline approaches for the YPG/SDF terrorist structure to integrate into the Damascus administration, tensions in the region have reached a breaking point. Security sources report that the Syrian army is preparing to launch a large-scale operation with a force of 80,000 troops if the integration does not occur within the next 15 days.
The countdown has begun for the "March 10 Agreement," signed on March 10, 2025, between the Damascus-based transitional administration and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The agreement stipulates that armed groups must integrate into the central government by the end of the year.
Erdoğan: "Failure to Comply Risks Crisis"
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan issued a stern warning regarding the implementation of the agreement, emphasizing that Turkey is closely monitoring the situation to prevent new faits accomplis in the region.
"We are making the necessary suggestions for the implementation of the March 10 Agreement, which carries the risk of turning into a crisis if there is resistance," President Erdoğan stated. "Implementing the agreement by those who signed it, in accordance with the principle of fidelity to the pact, will untie a major knot."
Minister Güler: No Room for "Geopolitical Engineering"
Turkish Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler also commented on the situation, criticizing international attempts to use the YPG/SDF as a proxy.
"Recent statements and analyses in the international media show that the YPG/SDF terrorist organization is being used as an apparatus by regional actors to prepare the ground for new geopolitical engineering," Minister Güler said. "For our goal of a terror-free Turkey to be permanently established, it is imperative that armed elements in Syria integrate quickly into the central administration. We expect the organization to heed the calls for disarmament and integration from within itself and complete this transformation without delay."
7 Divisions and 80,000 Troops on Standby
According to information provided by security sources, the Syrian army has completed its plans to take action once the deadline expires.
Reports indicate that 7 divisions and approximately 80,000 soldiers are being deployed to the line. It was noted that this number could increase parallel to developments on the ground. The operation will be supported by heavy weapons in the army's inventory, as well as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), helicopters, and fighter jets.
