German authorities have foiled a far-right assassination plot, arresting suspect Martin S. in Dortmund for coordinating plans via the darknet to target prominent politicians, civil servants, and public figures.
The Federal Public Prosecutor's Office announced the arrest of the 46-year-old suspect, stating that he had called for the assassination of politicians, public officials, and well-known public figures in Germany.
Martin S. is accused of operating an anonymous platform on the darknet called "Assassination Politics," where he shared an "execution list," along with "sensitive data" of politicians and government officials, and bomb-making instructions.
Former Chancellors on 'Execution List'
The suspect, who holds both German and Polish citizenship, faces charges of financing terrorism, inciting a severe act of violence that threatens the state, and disseminating personal data.
According to reports in Bild and Der Spiegel, the execution list shared on the platform contained at least 20 names. These reportedly included former German Chancellors Angela Merkel and Olaf Scholz, as well as former ministers, judges, and public prosecutors.
Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, who noted that the investigation into the suspect began in June, stated that the darknet platform was "an extremist far-right platform" and that the suspect was attempting to raise money for the assassinations.
Crypto Payments Promised to Killers
The Federal Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed that Martin S. was collecting cryptocurrency donations. The suspect allegedly promised to pay those who killed the individuals on the execution list with crypto assets collected through these donations.
The darknet platform also reportedly contained extreme right-wing and racist ideological elements, as well as conspiracy theories. According to security sources, the suspect belongs to the far-right "Reichsbürger" (Citizens of the Reich) group. His adopted ideology and views reportedly align with the democracy-hostile views of the group.
Information regarding Martin S.'s activities on the darknet platform was transmitted to the relevant authorities by Germany's domestic intelligence agency, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (Verfassungsschutz), and the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigation.
