Trump Slams European Leaders: 'Weak' on War and Migration
US President Donald Trump criticized European leaders as "weak" and described the continent's migration policies as a "disaster" in a scathing new interview.
WISE NEWS PRESS / WASHINGTON, USA — DEC. 10, 2025
US President Donald Trump has sharply escalated his rhetoric against European nations, branding their leaders as "weak" and describing the bloc as a "community of decaying nations" managed by ineffective leadership.
In an interview with the US-based news outlet Politico, Trump argued that European allies have failed to control migration and have been unable to bring the war in Ukraine to an end. The comments mark a continuation of the friction between the Trump administration and traditional transatlantic partners.
'They Don't Know What to Do'
Trump did not mince words regarding his counterparts across the Atlantic. "I think they are weak," Trump stated, adding, "But I also think they want to maintain a politically very correct attitude".
He went on to assert that European leadership is paralyzed by indecision. "I think they don't know what to do. Europe doesn't know what to do," he said. Regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Trump claimed that Europeans "talk too much but do nothing" to resolve the crisis.
Criticism of Merkel and Migration Policies
The President singled out former German Chancellor Angela Merkel for specific criticism, labeling Europe's general migration policy as "a disaster".
Trump claimed that "Germany was a country without crime" until Merkel made "two big mistakes" regarding migration and energy. He referred to the 2015 refugee crisis, which saw approximately one million asylum seekers enter Germany, and the decision to phase out nuclear energy, which he argued increased reliance on Russia.
Warning of dire consequences, Trump stated that allowing millions of people to enter has led to destruction, asserting that "many European countries are decaying".
Praise for Orban and Poland
While criticizing the broader European Union, Trump made exceptions for specific nations. He praised Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's restrictive approach to borders. "He is doing a good job, he doesn't let anyone into his country," Trump said. He also mentioned that Poland is handling the issue well.
US Strategy Document Targets EU
These remarks align with the recently released US National Strategy Document, which contains harsh criticisms of Europe.
The document accuses the EU of "undermining political freedom and sovereignty," "censoring freedom of expression," and "suppressing political opposition" in Europe. It further suggests that "European civilization faces the danger of extinction" due to migration policies and indicates that the Trump administration will encourage resistance against the current trajectory by supporting anti-EU far-right parties.
