Dervişoğlu: DEM Party believes in my sincerity more than others

ISTANBUL, TURKEY — IYI Party leader Müsavat Dervişoğlu addressed critical national issues on SOZCU TV, expressing skepticism about constitutional shifts and emphasizing the need for a return to a parliamentary system.

Speaking on the "Leaders Special" program, Dervişoğlu responded to questions from senior editors regarding the rumored "new solution process" and Turkey's political polarization. He claimed that his stance on national unity is perceived as more sincere by political rivals than some of their current partners, stating, "I believe the DEM Party believes in my sincerity more than the circles they currently cooperate with."

Constitutional hurdles and systemic failure

Dervişoğlu argued that the current executive presidential system is proving too heavy for Turkey to manage, leading to a political deadlock. Regarding a potential third term for President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, he noted that a constitutional amendment or an early election decision by the parliament is required. Dervişoğlu warned that reaching a majority of 400 seats in parliament would only "entrench the current regime" further rather than solving national problems.

He also explained IYI Party’s refusal to participate in constitutional commissions, asserting that these platforms are often used to equalize political parties with terrorist organizations for "political maneuvers." Dervişoğlu emphasized that his party refused to provide a ground of legitimacy for decisions that could weaken the unitary structure of the state.

The "Imralı Report" and political redaction

A significant portion of the interview focused on the transparency of parliamentary commissions and reports involving Abdullah Öcalan. Dervişoğlu claimed that the "Imralı Report," which initially appeared as 4 pages, has expanded to over 60 pages and is being redacted by units outside the Turkish Grand National Assembly. He criticized the lack of institutional control over these minutes, describing the situation as a disregard for parliamentary will.

Regarding the symbolic rug gift from MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli to Öcalan, Dervişoğlu suggested that such gestures are part of a calculated timeline designed by political strategists. He questioned the timing of these events and urged the public to scrutinize who is actually managing the "peace" discourse.

Regional security and Kurdish identity

Addressing regional security, Dervişoğlu remained skeptical of claims of victory in Syria as long as the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) remain positioned east of the Euphrates. He stated that Turkey must view these developments through its own security lens rather than relying on the differing expectations of the U.S. or Israel.

Dervişoğlu concluded by rejecting the notion of viewing the Kurdish people as a mere "vote repository." He highlighted that over 60 percent of the Kurdish population in Turkey lives west of Ankara, making any "identity-based" segregation a disservice to the nation. He reiterated the founding philosophy of the Republic, which defines Turkishness as a political citizenship rather than an ethnic marker.
