Martyr's mother marks 10th Eid at daughter's grave with uniform

KAYSERI, TURKEY — Huriye Yigit, the mother of Special Operations Deputy Inspector Cennet Yigit who was martyred during the July 15 coup attempt, marked her 10th Eid al-Fitr apart from her daughter at the local martyrdom in Kayseri.

The grieving mother sought solace in the memories of her fallen child, bringing Cennet's cherished police uniform to the grave. Despite the years that have passed since she rushed to her duty station on that fateful night, her family continues to honor her legacy with deep pride and enduring sorrow during the holidays.

Finding solace in her beloved uniform

According to journalist Ali Altuntas, Huriye Yigit experienced highly emotional moments at the martyrdom in the Bunyan district of Kayseri. Trying to hold back her tears as she embraced and smelled her daughter's uniform, the resilient mother spoke directly to her grave.

"I will not cry and make the enemies happy. My Cennet, look, I brought you the uniform you loved so much. You served this country in this uniform. You became a martyr for this country," Yigit said.

She emphasized that despite the immense pain of losing a child, the honor and pride her daughter left behind give the family the strength to keep standing tall.

"Our 10th Eid without Cennet"

Recalling past holidays, Huriye Yigit noted that her daughter never neglected them and always made sure to come and kiss her parents' hands for Eid. She expressed how incomplete and bitter the holidays feel now.

"Now we are spending our 10th holiday without her. Even if she cannot come and kiss my hand, I celebrate the holiday by kissing her gravestone," the grieving mother stated, adding her prayers for justice. "May the Lord destroy the traitors who made us experience this in both worlds."
