MHP Legal Chief Feti Yıldız: 'Hope Right' for Öcalan Depends on Full Condition Fulfillment

WISE NEWS PRESS / ANKARA, TURKEY — NOVEMBER 20, 2025

Feti Yıldız, MHP Deputy Chairman and head of the party's legal policy, made striking comments on the İmralı process, the commission vote, and potential legal amendments during a live broadcast on Bengü Türk TV. Yıldız indicated that the decision for the commission to visit İmralı would pass on Friday, and he also brought the "right to hope" discussion for PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan back to the political agenda.

Yıldız stressed that the process is definitely not a "give-and-take negotiation" and emphasized that no legal arrangement would be possible without the prerequisite of the organization laying down arms and being entirely dissolved.

İmralı Visit Decision Expected on Friday

Yıldız stated that the commission has reached a consensus regarding the İmralı visit, which has been debated for three weeks, and confirmed that the vote will finalize the decision this Friday.

"We said let's vote on Friday. A two-thirds majority is required for the vote, and that number is available. When asked, I clearly stated that the decision would be 'in favor of going.'"

The MHP official also underscored that political parties that do not wish to nominate a deputy for the delegation should openly share their decision with the public.

Öcalan's 'Right to Hope' Contingent on Full Conditions

Revisiting the "right to hope" proposal previously mentioned by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, Yıldız said it could come onto the agenda only if specific conditions are completely met.

Yıldız stated:

"You will request information on legal regulations. It is not appropriate for me to say anything prematurely now. Of course, there will be regulations. As we have been saying from the beginning, a penal execution regulation is essential. The 'right to hope,' which our leader mentioned conditionally, will indeed have the way opened for its use when the conditions are one hundred percent fulfilled."

No Disagreement within Cumhur Alliance

Addressing recent political rumors of a "difference of opinion between the AK Party and MHP regarding the İmralı process," Yıldız firmly rejected the claims, asserting the continuation of the joint stance within the Cumhur Alliance:

"There is not the slightest difference of opinion between the MHP and the AK Party on a Turkey without terrorism."

Yıldız also noted that a comprehensive preparation is underway for penal execution regulations and promised that the perceived injustice faced by convicts who could not benefit from the COVID-19 furlough would be rectified as soon as possible.
