Suspicious death of Suleymancilar leader: Contradictions emerge

WISE NEWS PRESS / ISTANBUL, TÜRKİYE

Journalist Aytunç Erkin has brought renewed attention to the suspicious death of Ahmet Arif Denizolgun, the former leader of the Suleymancilar religious community, citing critical contradictions in the official investigation file. Denizolgun, a former minister and MP, was found dead at his farm in Beykoz, Istanbul, on September 7, 2016, just two months after the FETÖ coup attempt.

The Mystery of the Missing 36 Hours

According to the information note from the Beykoz Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, testimony provided by farm employee Rufat Kadyrow reveals significant discrepancies. Kadyrow stated that Denizolgun arrived at the farm on September 6, yet he claimed not to have seen or heard from him for 36 hours. Despite this, he did not investigate until the driver arrived the following evening. Prosecutors noted that finding the house keys left in the door was "contrary to the ordinary course of life," raising further suspicions about the timeline.

Forensic Discrepancies and New Legal Action

The case has regained momentum after Denizolgun’s family filed a criminal complaint on October 3, 2024, alleging a cover-up at the Forensic Medicine Institute. While police reports initially noted "dense bubbly blood" coming from the leader's mouth, early witness statements described him as merely "immobile." Attorney Burak Bekiroğlu has since called for a full clarification of assassination claims, leading the Beykoz Prosecutor’s Office to transfer the file to the Bakırköy Prosecutor’s Office due to allegations of an institutional cover-up.

Power Shifts and Internal Struggles

The death of Denizolgun was immediately followed by Alihan Kuriş declaring leadership over the community, which controls vast financial resources and international networks. Erkin’s analysis, referencing Kaan Arslan’s book "Suleymancilar," suggests that the community has been a target for infiltration by the FETÖ network. The book draws parallels between the current structure of the Suleymancilar and the Fethullahist organization in the 1990s, highlighting mysterious suicides within the community and a multi-million dollar business empire operating under foreign intelligence support.
