WASHINGTON, UNITED STATES — Following the recent joint military operations conducted by the United States and Israel against Iran, Washington is reportedly deploying a massive fleet consisting of 8,000 military personnel to the Middle East in preparation for a potential ground offensive.
This rapid mobilization by the Pentagon, which includes thousands of combat-ready Marines, threatens to significantly expand the scope of the ongoing regional conflict while elevating the US military intervention capacity in the Middle East to unprecedented levels.
Giant six-ship fleet assembles
According to a report by the US-based Newsmax television channel, citing four senior military officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the deployment process has been initiated at an accelerated pace. The Boxer Amphibious Ready Group and the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit have been mobilized much earlier than originally planned. This massive force, which is expected to reach the Middle East via the Indo-Pacific route, will reportedly join the USS Tripoli, a vessel already advancing into the region.
The Wall Street Journal also corroborated the Pentagon's deployment plans in its recent headlines. According to military sources cited in the reports, the massive fleet consisting of a total of six amphibious ships will transport approximately 8,000 military personnel, including 5,000 Marines, to the conflict zone.
Escalating casualties and mutual strikes
As reported by Anadolu Agency (AA), the tension in the region reached a boiling point on February 28 when Israel and the United States launched comprehensive military strikes against Tehran while diplomatic negotiations were ostensibly ongoing. The Iranian administration responded to this major offensive by striking various designated targets in allied countries hosting US military bases, primarily Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain.
The human cost of the escalating war has been devastating. According to statements made by Iranian officials, numerous high-ranking figures, including Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, were killed during the intensive US and Israeli bombardments. The total death toll from the fierce regional clashes has reportedly reached 1,348, with the number of injured surpassing 17,000.
