WISE NEWS PRESS / MYKOLAIV, UKRAINE

Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration Head Vitaliy Kim has released footage showing specialized divers conducting underwater mine clearance operations within the waters of one of Mykolaiv's key ports.

The video highlights the ongoing efforts to secure the region's maritime infrastructure, showing divers meticulously inspecting the seabed for explosive hazards. The operation was carried out by the special operations demining department of the Ukrainian Demining Services (UDS).

Successful identification of maritime hazards

During the recent survey, specialists successfully identified several dangerous objects in the port’s waters. These efforts are part of a broader mission to neutralize remnants of conflict that pose a threat to both civilian safety and maritime logistics. Vitaliy Kim emphasized that the work of these specialized units is essential for the restoration of safe operations in the region's ports.

Demining efforts in the Mykolaiv region

The UDS has maintained an extensive presence in the Mykolaiv region over the past two years, conducting both land and maritime demining activities. According to recent reports, the organization has inspected a total of 4,645.73 hectares of territory in the area.

Significant portions of this work have been conducted as a service to local communities. Of the total area surveyed, 3,100 hectares were inspected free of charge for local municipalities.

Broad impact of UDS operations

In addition to survey activities, UDS has successfully demined 783.7 hectares of land and water in the region. Within these operations, 116 hectares were cleared at no cost to the public. These figures reflect the high level of specialized labor required to return hazardous zones to safe use following the placement of mines and other explosives.
