Is it Trump’s Will or the Manifestation of Divine Law? The Spiritual Codes of War and Ukraine’s "Immortal" Soldiers

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently made one of his clearest statements to date regarding the timeline for the end of the war. Stating that "the end of the war depends on Trump's will," Zelenskyy pointed to June as the target date. Political analysts, diplomats, and strategists might interpret this statement through the lens of the changing guard at the White House, pressure from the Republican wing, or Western fatigue. From a conjunctural perspective, this might be a correct prediction. However, to view the issue solely from the geopolitical chessboard is to miss the "spiritual causes" of the unfolding tragedy and the operation of divine laws (Sunnatullah).

Wars are not merely struggles fought with cannons and rifles; they are also spiritual tests for tribes, nations, and leaders. To understand this conflict—which is squeezed between Russia and Ukraine but has turned into a global fire—it is not enough to look at Moscow or Washington. We must turn our gaze to the reflections of the "Divine Decree" (Levh-i Mahfuz) on earth, that is, to divine messages.

The Verses Putin Recited and the "Secret" Message of the War

Russian President Vladimir Putin has turned to the Holy Quran at the most critical junctures of this war, perhaps with a voice even louder than the leaders of the Islamic world. The fact that Putin has such a command of the Muslims' holy book, and that he not only knows the verses but announces their "secret" to all humanity with strategic timing, cannot be seen as a mere ordinary political maneuver.

Let us recall; Putin recited the 103rd verse of Surah Al-Imran: "And remember the favor of Allah upon you - when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together and you became, by His favor, brothers."

And at another meeting, he spoke with Surah An-Nasr, the herald of victory and turning towards God: "When the victory of Allah has come and the conquest, and you see the people entering into the religion of Allah in multitudes, then exalt [Him] with praise of your Lord and ask forgiveness of Him. Indeed, He is ever Accepting of repentance."

Putin’s selection of these verses is no coincidence. Knowingly or unknowingly, he has communicated the universal message of the Quran. That tremendous truth in Surah Al-Imran cries out that the owner of both war and peace is God alone. It is only He who makes hearts enemies, and it is only He who reconciles (unites) and warms them to one another. No matter how powerful a leader may be, unless God’s names "Al-Jami" (The Gatherer/Uniter) and "Al-Wadud" (The Loving/The Beloved) manifest, he cannot reconcile two enemy peoples.

There is a thought-provoking paradox here: How can it be explained that a leader who reads these verses and grasps the depth of the divine message invades a neighbor—a part of his own culture and history—and causes the death of millions of people and turns cities into ruins? This is exactly where the equation of "Blessing and Gratitude" comes into play.

Lightning Rods and Divine Wrath

Every country and every society has spiritual "lightning rods." These are the good people within that society, those who pray, those who are grateful to God, and those who do not consent to oppression. When these lightning rods are withdrawn or forcibly removed from a country, or when that society is ungrateful for its blessings, the divine shield of protection is lifted. Anyone who reads the translations of the Holy Quran can see this immutable law of history. Many civilizations and powerful armies have come and gone before us. God gave them great blessings, riches, and power. However, those peoples who did not thank Him for those blessings and used their power as a tool of oppression were destroyed by "a cause." Sometimes a natural disaster, sometimes an inextricably difficult war like this one...

Today, if Russia were to list the territories it thinks it has won one under the other, could it bring back the spirituality, human resources, and peace it has lost? There is no winner in this war, and there will not be one. Because one cannot prosper through oppression. However, the end of the war also depends on the same spiritual law: The Return.

The end of the war is possible not only at diplomatic tables but by returning to God in one's heart, by turning away from wrong. In Islamic belief, it is said that "Earth and sky stand through prayer." Even at the point where science claims to be at its "peak" today, we see the flag of the Quran waving in the flawless functioning of the universe. If the people of Ukraine and the people of Russia hear this universal call of the Quran; if they thank God for the blessings He has given (life, land, sustenance) and fall into prostration of gratitude, God will bring their hearts closer together as promised in Al-Imran. The water that will extinguish this fire, in which nearly 5 million people have died (or been casualties) and millions have been left homeless, is the water of "istighfar" (seeking forgiveness).

Ukraine’s "Immortal" Martyrs and the Reality of Dreams

The incident that reveals the spiritual dimension of the war in the most striking way is hidden in the interviews held with grieving families in Ukraine, right on the field.

In the interviews I conducted with the wives, mothers, and children of soldiers who lost their lives in the war, I asked them this question: "Did you see your martyred spouse, father, or brother in your dream?"

The answers I received were as hair-raising as they were confirmatory of another miracle of the Holy Quran. Families described the following through tears: "Yes, we see them. And they insistently tell us this: 'We are not dead! Why are you crying? We are just on another mission. We continue to fight for Ukraine's victory, for goodness. We are here, we are alive.'"

These expressions are like a living commentary on Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 154 and Surah Al-Imran, Verse 169: "And do not say about those who are killed in the way of Allah, 'They are dead.' Rather, they are alive, but you perceive [it] not."

Most Ukrainian soldiers may be Christian. However, believing in God and sacrificing one's life to protect one's homeland, family, honor, and land is a reality of human nature (fitra) and divine justice. The fact that these soldiers cry out in dreams "We are not dead" shows that they have reached a rank of "martyrdom" and immortality in the sight of God. The secret of faith is hidden not in the labels of religion, but in the truth of the heart and action. God rewards His servants who give their lives for their homeland and nation and stand against oppression, regardless of their religion, in His own scale of justice. Heavens underneath which rivers flow are not just a name, but a deserved eternal abode of peace.

These dreams are the greatest spiritual consolation given to the Ukrainian people. They should know that their children, whom they thought they had lost, are actually "alive" in a higher dimension.

The Key to Peace is Not in Washington

It is exactly at this point that Zelenskyy's statement "The war ends with Trump's will" remains incomplete. Trump, Putin, or Zelenskyy... They are all "causes." The real "Causer of Causes" (Müsebbibü'l-esbâb) is God.

Trump's will can only manifest if God's "Universal Will" permits it. If God does not will it, even if all world leaders come together and sign the greatest peace treaties, that peace will remain on paper. If hearts do not warm, hands will not be pulled from the trigger. But if God wills; the hardest hearts soften, the greatest hatreds turn into love, and the war ends in an instant.

The people of Ukraine should actually see God's hand behind the truckloads of aid, weapons, or money coming from the USA and Europe. That aid comes not from the generosity of the West, but from God's mercy towards the oppressed, from His name Ar-Razzaq (The Provider). When the people of Ukraine see the Divine Will behind this aid and turn their faces not to Washington or Brussels but directly to the Creator; when they reach the station of gratitude and repent, the course of the war will change.

If an act has been committed that touches God's honor (Gayretullah), if oppression has been committed, or if there has been ingratitude for a blessing, the price for this is heavy. The way to lift the wrath is to eliminate the causes that attract that wrath. Turning back from wrong, repenting, and thanking God for every breath given...

Ukraine has suffered greatly. The Russian people have also been crushed under the burden of this meaningless war. What needs to be done today is to focus not on Zelenskyy's June calendar, but on the divine calendar. The conditions required for the end of the war are clear:

  1. Confession and Repentance: Accepting mistakes and asking for forgiveness from God (as in Surah An-Nasr read by Putin).

  2. Gratitude: Knowing that the aid comes from God and thanking Him.

  3. Prayer: Asking God, the owner of heaven and earth, to unite hearts.

May God end this suffering for the sake of the good, the innocent, and those "immortal" martyrs who sacrificed their lives for their homeland. May He dry up the seeds of hatred and hatred and make seeds of peace and brotherhood grow in their place. It should not be forgotten that; Trump is only a means, the judgment and dominion belong to God. Human ambitions may start wars, but it is only and solely His mercy that will end them.
